Quality isn't the factor here. What I am arguing - and I hope people will someday agree - is that "writer" is not a title to be won, like "grandmaster" or even "professional novelist", but simply a description. I am a writer, although most of my writing is blogging and most of my time spent on other things - ursulav is a writer, although her identity is more focused on her visual art - the_zaniak is a writer, eldaisy is a writer, the kid who takes out a crayon and laboriously prints words on construction paper is a writer. To write is to be a writer.

Now, you (and eldaisy, and ursulav, and many others) are a pretty good writer. The kid (and McGonagall), not so much. But that's an entirely other subject - if the question is, are you a writer, the answer is, do you write?
