Go to Newegg.com and check out all the external drives. LaCie is very good, but the Western Digital MyBook I got is awesome and I got a better price than what LaCie was offering for comparable drives.

On LiveJournal: I guess I'm a snob.

I always viewed Myspace as a co-ed high-school sleepover when the parents were out of town.

LiveJournal's like living in the college dorms - more civilized, but you're still sharing a bathroom with your 20 closest neighbors, even if you don't like them. (Xanga's the same, only at a small private junior college that doesn't advertise well.)

Facebook is a college in the middle of the city with six separate campuses that require me to learn both the bus and the subway in order to navigate, and they tore up all the maps. There must be some skill to navigating that place that only those under 25 are privvy to, because damned if I (or most of the people my age at work) can figure it out. What's the cheat code to see the map? Up up down down left right left right select star?

Anyway, at some point, you graduate. Sometimes you get your own place before they boot you out the door and charge you $30 for your own damn diploma, and sometimes you don't. At any rate, you're probably at a point now where it's time to shop for your own place.

Please let me introduce you to the world of Wordpress. There's Wordpress.com if you're looking for a nice dorm-style apartment - free blogging similar to Livejournal (features here (http://wordpress.com/features/)).

And there's Wordpress.org, for when you've bought the land (domain) and you're ready to build your own house.

If you want/need the flexibility of a full host (posting photos, video, etc. storing you stuff, knowing that your domain name won't change because it's *yours*) I have only excellent things to say about hostmonster (http://www.hostmonster.com/) and Wordpress makes some recommendations for hosting here (http://wordpress.org/hosting/) as well.

(hm, that metaphor worked better than I expected. I might repost that one.)

On the trackpad, try cleaning it (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=17228). I've been cruel enough in the past to flip the laptop and shake it to get crud out from under the buttons, and when truly desperate I've even taken the case apart, but that's many many many steps and it may be worth it to have the Geniuses take a glance first.

:)
