What makes it worse is that TNH is demonstrably intelligent about scams in particular: see her catalog of forms from 2002 (http://nielsenhayden.com/makinglight/archives/001509.html#001509). It's just that technology shines so brightly that people can just mirror the jargon and get away with it (briefly).
