So, as I said, we only skimmed the report - but as far as I can tell, the assumption these people made was that future people would heed warnings if they understood them. And the full-length message goes into detail on the danger, with periodic tables and everything. That would be a challenge to translate, but y'know, if anyone wants the challenge, it's an open-access paper.
I don't think there's anything that would stop a party of D&D adventurers, but most real people probably have slightly better self-preservation instincts than they do.
