If you could rename yourself in real life, what would you choose, and why?

I saw this question a few days ago, but I still find it very strange – you can rename yourself in real life, so why this phrasing? And even if there are obstacles of practicality, you can (a) ask people to call you by your preferred name and/or (b) use your preferred name to identify yourself in a new context, e.g. the Internet or fiction-writing.

I might do the latter, actually. I think I like "Robin Hamilton" or "H. D. Zimmermann" better than "Robin Zimmermann" as a nom de plume.

I always liked Margaret Gibson or Maggie Gibson -- until my folks named their dog Magesty and nicknamed her Maggie. Now I'm not so sure ;)

See, for me this is kind of a moot point because I already have renamed myself in real life. Several times. Not to replace my real name, of course, but to use other names for different purposes. As you probably know, since I've mentioned it in my LJ, "Alun Clewe" isn't my real name...and I have a different name I use for my writing, and yet another for my screen name in acting, and... yeah.

Also, I just noticed I'm replying to this post nearly a week after the fact. Um...I've got to get back to checking my Friends page more often...

Hey, look on the bright side – at least you're profitably distracted from Livejournal. ;)
