(Yes, I'm trying to start an intermeme again. So sue me. ^_^)

1. Copy these instructions and the Story So Far. Add a link back to the previous player's post.
2. Scroll to the end of the story. Delete the ellipsis at the end and add your LJ account name (or other blog name) with asterisks [*] on either side. (Example: "You'll never take me alive!" the villain said. "I'll ... wait, where's my gun?" "You mean this?" asked *Peyton*.)
3. Continue the story, leaving a 'hook' (trailing ellipsis in the place of a name) for the next player. Omit the stars if you refer to any old names. (Example: "Peyton! Look out!" shouted Casey, but it was too late! A shape came out of the shadows and struck Peyton down! "Ha ha!" shouted the villain. "You fools forgot to incapacitate my accomplice, ...")
4. Comment on the previous player's post with a link to your contribution.

Sorry about completely disobeying rule #2, but I thought your story definitely needed more Morlocks in it.

I also broke rule four, but that was unintentional (http://explodingbat.livejournal.com/57696.html).

Hey, it's not like anyone else followed Rule #2. :P

Oh and I meant to thank you for recommending `Three Men in a Boat`! The copy I've got also contains the sequel Three Men on the Bummel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Men_on_the_Bummel) (though I've not read that yet). And To Say Nothing of the Dog (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_Say_Nothing_of_the_Dog) also looks interesting (well it won a Hugo award anyway).

Oh, yes, my copy does, too - it's a pretty popular double-feature. (And I am ashamed to say I've not read the sequel either.) Mine's not got the illustrations, unfortunately, but old J's prose is quite good enough. :D

I'd say "To Say Nothing of the Dog" is pretty good - about typical for the Connie Willis I've read. It's in her time-travel series; "The Doomsday Book" is another in that series I'd recommend.
