If you had to give up one of your five senses, which could you live without?

Assuming that the question refers to the five Aristotelian senses - sight, hearing, touch, smell, and taste...

...I think I would have to go with sight. Hearing would be a less inconvenient disability, but to lose music? I cannot bear the thought.

crazy boy!
sight would be horrible to live without. I understand your love for music... but there's something about being able to see the musican play or sing a song they have written. when you know the words really mean something to them. I think that's just as important sometimes as being able to hear the laughter, joy or pain in their lyrics. Plus I do love to read. Although being read to is a joy of mine also. If I were to answer this writers block (and i guess that i will now) I'd have to go with smell or taste.

Guilty as charged!

The thing with smell and taste is that both are necessary for judging the freshness of food. Plus, eating would really stink without both of those intact.

I love reading too, and having to rely on Braille or speech synthesizers would be a monstrous pain, but I still think I'd stick with my choice.

walking would also stink without sight. sure it can and is done everyday but i'm almost positive it isn't because of choice:)

It would be more nerve-wracking and slower, but I don't think it would be less enjoyable in and of itself. Besides, I don't need to walk a lot - I could go to the gym and use the stationary bicycles for exercise.

ha... i think you missed my meaning but I understand yours.

I am in complete accord. It's kind of unthinkable, not being able to listen to music. If I go deaf when I'm old, I will just have to off myself.

Don't worry - we've already started hacking the visual cortex, I bet we'll be able to install audio-in jacks long before we lose all hearing. :P

Wow, really? Out of the basic five I'd go for taste.

That would be a good option, except that I really like to mix up my meals. Eating stuff that was the same every day would really stink.

I agree! I would much rather be blind than deaf. Music is my life and to lose that would mean there was little hope for me.

Indeed!
