  • 18:11 Today I reached Ch. 2 of the book version of Imre Lakatos's "Proofs and Refutations". Just FYI: if you aren't a mathematician, *stop at 1.* #

> Do you ever notice continuity errors in RL?

Yes, and it used to bug the hell out of me, because once upon a time I was sharp enough to have complete trust both in my observational ability and in my memory.

Fortunately, several years of severe sleep deprivation has completely removed that trust, so now I can just shrug them off to errors on my part.

Yeah, I generally do the same. Sorta creepy, though - you gotta wonder: how lousy an imitation of reality could we be living in and not notice?

Extremely lousy, actually. Here's a fun experiment to do to a friend:

Bring them into a room with you -- one with a fair bit of clutter, but any ol' room will do, and tell them that they have 10 seconds to count all of the blue things in the room.

Next, ask them to close their eyes ... and then ask them to describe all of the red objects they saw.

Ooh, fun!

Could the driver have changed for the end of a shift or something similar?

Oh, I'm sure. I was all the way in the back fooling around with my cell phone after I boarded - they could have easily swapped off without my noticing, and I mean easily.
