[livejournal.com profile] the_zaniak linked this essay on the irrationality of liberal theism by [livejournal.com profile] lovecrafty, and it got me thinking. And I realized that this post does the very thing many atheists like to endorse Sam Harris's "The End of Faith" for – rationally argue that liberal theism is not innocuous.

Well, the thing is, "The End of Faith" isn't primarily about liberal theism. Really, if you aren't interested in the possibility of a scientific mysticism, I don't think Harris is really worth the time. Plus, he spends much of the book arguing that Islam is inherently dangerous to the world, and despite his skill at presenting reasonable arguments for that position, it's not something I'd want to promote.

[livejournal.com profile] lovecrafty, on the other hand, isn't writing about Islam, mysticism, or any of that jazz. He's just pointing out the weaknesses of most liberal theist's worldviews.

Oh, uh, I should mention: he's not tactful. I get the impression that he's deliberately not so. Expect harsh words. And the f-word.
