Yes! Doubly so since it wouldn't be all that hard to solve this problem correctly at the filesystem level -- a la BeOS, who did it years and years ago.

Yeah, when i first noticed strigi doing that i was pretty irked, mostly cause it had apparently been doing it for months without telling me; i don't mind spending time now to save time later, but that only works if the left hand knows what the right is doing...
