We tried one half of don't cut the tree/be the tree today.
We rolled "Head of the Mafia" and "it's been months", and when the time came to write a letter, we decided that the child had cut ties because they wanted to pursue a career where Mafia ties would lock them out.
So ... we wrote our letter, and then ... well, we'd written it in a notebook, so we didn't burn it or throw it away - we didn't want to damage the notebook. But that's the choice we made: don't send the letter, because it'll actually make things worse for them.
It felt a little inadequately edited, and the metaphor was heavy enough in our minds that we couldn't really approach it as a prompt fairly? But it was still a meaningful story...
