So, there was a house that had just been repaired, and the protagonist learned that the people who did the repairs had tried to build another house, but the process had been interrupted by some kind of poltergeist messing things up for anyone who tried to enter the property. The protagonist, being curious, started sitting outside the property and leaving small gifts just at the doorway to get the attention of the poltergeist and establish a friendly rapport.
It turned out, they discovered, that an astronomical event was approaching that would lead to some kind of beam of murderous energy smashing into the specific lot of land in the immediate future - which was no problem for a ghost, being as they were already dead, but a potentially fatal problem if (say) a house full of people were living there at the time.
And ... we're shaky on some of the details, but it turned out that the house-builder had actually shown up and was going to try to kill the poltergeist with a rifle or something so they could get into the house? I think the protagonist talked them out of it, though, and the astronomical event happened and didn't kill anyone.
Kind of weird, but ... I mean, as dreams we remember go, not bad?
