For no particular reason. Caveat: This merely represents my personal ranking of noms de réseau*. Disclaimer: Evaluations of Internet name do not reflect the named individuals – most of them are pretty cool people, regardless.

  1. Short, snappy, and original nickname. Examples: Cubist, Quickbeam.
  2. First name, last initial. Examples: Robin Z, [livejournal.com profile] ursulav.
Full name. Examples: James Lazarus, [livejournal.com profile] bradhicks.
  3. Not short, not snappy, or not-original nickname. Examples: Xepher, EverLastingGodStopper.
  4. Other forms of real-life name. Examples: Mark, P J Evans.
  5. Anything with underscores or other weird punctuation. Examples: peri_renna, Waltz #2 (XO)
  6. Apparently-random strings of letters and/or numbers, (almost) regardless of meaning, and anything misspelled. Examples: Oowthie, TAG-your it!.
  7. Any of the above, with a 4-digit year at the end.

Yeah, I'm going to bed now.

My first thought was that I was short, snappy and original. Then I realised that I was probably closer to not short OR snappy.

And then I realised I had an underscore!

Man, I don't rock NEARLY as hard as I'd hoped!

You're telling me – peri_renna is me! It's not even original!

Ah, well. As Beckett said, "Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."

What about numbers that aren't years? Does that fall into #6?

Hm. It might qualify as #5, or even #3/#1, depending. But most times it would be #6, yes.
