xdle is a game in the Wordle vein, but about guessing three-digit integers based on number theory facts like greatest common divisors.
Short post, but I guess might be spoilers, so it's under the cut. Also there's that one weed joke.
some possible xdle starting guesses
- 420
- An ideal starting guess should probably be near 500 (to split the range in half) and also have lots of factors (to narrow the catalogue of possible numbers by identifying which factors are present or absent). 2 times 3 times 5 times 7 is 210, which covers the four smallest prime numbers; repeating the first prime number produces this starting guess. Which is very funny.
- 525
- If you want to omit one of these four primes, 3 time 5 times 7 is 105, so multiplying by 5 again gets you even closer to 500. This was a perfectly cromulent guess - we used it for several days.
- 499
- According to the internet, 499 is a prime number. Trying this once, it felt like a complete waste of a guess so we shan't bother again.
- 660
- 2 squared times 3 times 5 times ... 11. We've only tried it today, but it worked fine today - might try it again tomorrow, see how it goes.
