"Horrifying! Nightmarish! Chilling barbaric sci-fi scenario! Yuck factor! Science BAD! Science BAD!"
Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 08:15 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I was reading along and all of a sudden they use the word "horrifying". How is it "horrifying"?

Probably they're imagining some appeal to nature (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appeal_to_nature) argument like "Meat should come from animals!"

Like slaughterhouses (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slaughterhouse) are better.

No, Mungo! Science good! Good!

Way too many people buy into the wisdom of repugnance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wisdom_of_repugnance) idea.

That's... actually a really good idea. Wildly impractical, of course, and most likely you'd never be able to produce it on a scale that would make it a reasonable alternative, but still...

I thought you'd like the idea (http://chanlemur.livejournal.com/44874.html).

RTFM, (http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=264) thread-derailer! </jerk>

By the way, as long as we're off-topic, it's Preston's Candy (http://www.prestonscandy.com/) (mail-order; we usually phone), Sony is rumoured to be designing games for its new system that will modify themselves only to work on one machine, and our neighbors have a never-used gas grill to give away if you know anyone.

o_O`

Modify themselves to only work on one machine? -_o
How is that supposed to work?

Do you mean PlayStation 3?

*cautiously points out he is ignoring your first line, and directs your attention to the internal i/o that took place upon LJ-New-Features, where they made some programming errors and had a daemon run rampant turning on the so-called "feature" on users who had specifially requested not to have it earliertimes, [livejournal.com profile] nanakikun being one of the victims*

*politely points out that the spam-robot filter glitches out when being viewed on a monochrome output layer*
